Celebrate Dr. Seuss Read Across America!

    February 8, 2013 /

One of my favorite things about being a children’s author is reading to a classroom full of kids!  I just love to see their faces light up when we get to an exciting part of the story.  Recent studies show that reading to a child up to age 5 is a positive predictor for literacy in later years. (Source: National Early Literacy Report).  In May 1997, a small reading task force at The National Education Association (NEA) wanted to get kids excited about reading.  Thus, NEA’s Read Across America was born and celebrated on March 1, 1998, Dr. Seuss’s birthday.  Now we see everyone from schools to libraries to community centers host events to…

Current Giveaway: 3-month Subscription to Tales2Go

    October 3, 2012 /

Good news!  Tales2Go is offering a chance for dandelion moms to win a 3 month subscription with unlimited access to their audio books library.  Tales2Go was chosen by The New York Times as a “Top Pick” iPhone App and a receipent of the Moms Choice Gold Award Winner and a Parent’s Choice Gold Award Winner.  I love what this company is doing as far as promoting literacy and a love of reading that I featured the co-founder, Tracey Weil, on dandelion moms. There are two prizes for the 3-month subscription and valued at $30 each.  Good Luck! Inspirational Mom: Tracey Weil

    October 3, 2012 /

“There are many little ways to enlarge your child’s world. Love of books is the best of all.” ~ Jacqueline Kennedy (quote taken from Tales2Go site). One of the things that I feel very passionate about is promoting a love of reading and writing in children.  I so enjoyed escaping into my books as a child and still love that feeling of getting so immersed you forget the time.  So I am happy to spotlight Tracey Weil, who is the co-founder of Tales2Go.   They offer a large selection of audio books for children – on the go.  It is such a wonderful way to entertain and educate children with stories that…
