Louisiana Flooding: Helping their Schools, Teachers and Students

    August 24, 2016 /

We found out recently that several schools in and around the Ascension Parish would be delayed in opening/starting due to the recent flooding in Louisiana. Watching the news and reading the papers you feel it and you see it – just not the way those that are living there do. With getting my own children ready for school I had not even thought of “the schools” and how they were affected. I had seen mostly the displacement of families and pets and too many people losing everything. Left with unimaginable horror at what those in the area were dealing with and going through. It was during this time that a…

Bringing Beauty and Color to Kids in Need – Athens, Greece

    August 15, 2016 /

While volunteering in a refugee camp in Athens, Greece for 2 months, I met many adorable children with bright smiles and kind laughs. The kids enjoyed games, activities, school and anything where you showed affection and love towards them. Since I have a passion for art, I started to draw henna-like designs on the kids. Everyone loved the drawings and soon enough I had children lined up for them. The girls adored having pretty flower and mandala designs on their hands. After watching the kids’ eagerness and enthusiasm for the designs, I realized that they loved having something unique and special drawn on their hands. The boys loved to have their favorite…

The Importance of Volunteering as a Teenager

    December 5, 2015 /

This article was written by Kaitlin Murray – our new teen contributor. Volunteering changed my life. I learned more about myself and about the world than I ever thought I would. Not only did it shape me as a person, but it also changed my perspective on the world and on life, giving me an incredible insight to the world that surrounds me. After one month of meeting refugees escaping Syria, Iraq, and other war-torn countries, I learned how great it is to give of our hearts and our time, but most importantly to love people unconditionally.  So here are the top 4 reasons why it is so important to volunteer…

The Most Rewarding Travel Experience Ever – Helping the Syrian Refugees in Turkey

    September 19, 2015 /

My travel article this time will focus on a special type of travel that has changed my family in the most profound way and has been the most rewarding travel experience we have ever had – volunteering where it is desperately needed. As you probably know, my family travels full-time and are always wanting to experience new places and adventures. Our original travel plans for September had included extensive travel throughout Romania and Portugal – two countries we had yet to explore as a family. However, when we heard the news about the terrible refugee crisis in Turkey, we changed our plans and headed straight to Bodrum, Turkey to help…
