Inspirational Mom:: Tara Lazar, Kidlit Author Powerhouse

    March 30, 2016 /

Looking for an inspirational mom with a “you can’t stop me” attitude? Meet Tara Lazar (rhymes with bazaar), a creative mother of two who writes quirky, humorous children’s books−picture books and middle school novels−that kids (and adults) love. She was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2010 and has lost feeling in her feet and legs. She’s a woman who is overcoming her chronic illness to achieve her goals and dreams. Tara is a kidlit author powerhouse who speaks at conferences and events, and teaches workshops to help other children’s authors achieve their dreams of getting published. Her new children’s book “Normal Norman” is delightful tale with an important message all children need to…

    National Dictionary Day October 16th

    October 16, 2015 /

On October 16, 1758, Noah Webster was born in Hartford, Connecticut. Very few people went to college in Webster’s day, but he loved learning. So much so that his family chose to send him to Yale in 1774 when he was just 16 years old. He graduated in 1778. Webster could not afford to continue on to study law, so he chose to become a teacher. Webster was unhappy with the books that were used in American schools as they came from England and spoke often of allegiance to King George. Webster wanted students to learn from American books so he worte one himself. In 1783 Webster penned A Grammatical…

How a Travel Journal Became My Daughter’s Greatest Treasure

    July 5, 2015 /

Have you ever bought a journal and promised yourself to write in it EVERYDAY, only to have days, weeks, and months go by without even opening it? Are you one of those people who has a library of partly filled beautiful journals gathering dust on a shelf? If so, then like you, I have always had a fascination with journals – especially ones I bring on a trip with great intentions to fill it with vivid details of a fabulous adventure. Yet, after the first few days of beautifully written journal entries, I begin to lose interest and think, “Oh, I’ll just write in it later.” I write in the…

In the Spotlight :: Kathy Kinney of Mrs.P Be-a-Famous Writer Contest

    July 16, 2013 /

This is my third year supporting the Mrs. P Be-A-Famous-Writer Contest that children across the country can enter for a chance to have their winning story beautifully illustrated and published into a real-live book!  Promoting a love of reading and writing is one of my passions because books have been such a part of my life.  There are so many magical worlds just ready to draw you in – you just pick up the book and read it.  Think about your own favorite book as a child and think about why it was your favorite childhood book.  I loved Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell and would daydream about…
