Dandelion Moms Project Kindness :: July

We were inspired to create the dandelion moms project kindness after watching a video from one of my favorite children’s authors Amy Krouse Rosenthal and her Beckoning of Lovely project.  We can always  use more loveliness and kindness sent out into the world so we created the dandelion moms project kindness where we feature grass-roots organizations and people who are doing great things and could use some help.  One month the dandelion moms community helped to create a much-needed library in the Dominican Republic and sent over 150 books that will be used the local townspeople in their new library.  Another month dandelion moms sent in old shoes and gently used running shoes to help build playgrounds and provide footwear for children in developing countries.  We just ask that you do what you can when you can and help send out seeds of kindness!

This month we are featuring a wonderful foundation called  Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) that emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). In 2000, 4-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of supporters across the country carrying on her legacy of hope.

Before passing away at the age of 8, Alex raised $1 million with the help of kids across the country. Since then, kids all over have held lemonade stands to raise more than 50 million dollars for childhood cancer research. The foundation chooses projects that are likely to make critical contributions to current pediatric cancer research and play a part in bringing the latest and most promising lifesaving treatments to seriously ill children. Since 2006, they have awarded more than 300 grants for childhood cancer research. (Source: www.alexlemonade.org).  What an amazing little girl Alex was and look how much her life impacted others! This is a perfect example of how one idea can spread so much hope and have such a positive impact in other people’s lives.  Please join us this month to help make a difference and teach our kids about helping others!
