Recipes :: Fall Comfort Food

Today is the official start of Fall.  I love this time of year – from wearing fall clothes (my obsession with coats can be fully realized) to making hearty meals that can be enjoyed on a cold fall day.  I found some healthy yet comforting foods the entire family will enjoy.  What’s not to like about Homemade Cheez-Its?  Perfect for football season and for your children’s school lunches.  Enjoy!

Slow-Roasted BLT:

Seeing this yummy BLT almost makes me want to eat bread again for the day – but I have taken out gluten so this wouldn’t work.  But for those with no gluten sensitivities, this looks very delicious.  I love slow-roasted tomatoes and this would fit the bill for a filling sandwich on a cold fall day.  If you want to skip the bread but use the rest of the ingredients – do it Paleo style and wrap the ingredients in a leaf or two of Romaine lettuce.  You just might find it as filling! Plus if you add some nutritious avocado – that will definitely do the trick!  To read more about how she makes this sandwich go to: https://notwithoutsalt.com/2011/06/12/b-l-slow-roasted-t/

Chorizo and Tomato Salad:

This recipe comes from Greedy Gourmand and Jamie Oliver.  I like that this could either be the meal or a side dish.  Plus, it has only a few ingredients but is a healthy dish with chorizo, tomatoes, olive oil and onions.  Yum!  To read more go to:https://greedygourmand.blogspot.com.au/2012/03/jamie-olivers-chorizo-tomato-salad.html

Tartiflette – Eating France:

This receipe comes from Ferdakost and she writes that “Tartiflette is native to Rhône-Alpes, a gigantic region bordering Italy and Switzerland and home to France’s gastronomical capital, Lyon. From my research I’ve concluded that they’re big on potatoes, cream, onions and cheese, or mixtures thereof, plus sausages, naturally, like many regions.”  This is the ultimate comfort food if you ask me!  To read more about how to make this delicious dish go to: https://www.ferdakost.com/2011/10/tartiflette-eating-france.html

Hearty Chicken Stew with Butternut Squash and Quinoa:

I like that this recipe can be put in the crock pot early in the morning and cooks all day.  Plus the chicken, butternut squash and quinoa make it a very healthy dish but a very delicious healthy stew!  You can read more at: https://www.cookincanuck.com/2011/11/hearty-chicken-stew-with-butternut-squash-quinoa-recipe/

 Homemade Cheez-Its:

Love this recipe as the entire family would enjoy homemade Cheez-Its.  This recipe comes from Shop Girl Maria and she says they taste as good – if not better than the Cheez-Its you find at the grocery store.  Homemade is always better in my book and my daughter (and husband) are big Cheez-Its fans so this might be on the menu this week!  You can read more about how to make these at:
