Recently I had the opportunity to work with LeapFrog and hosted a LeapReader “Ready, Set, Read & Write” Party with 11 schoolchildren and their moms.  They sent me a box of goodies and I received some promotional items in exchange for hosting a LeapReader party. LeapFrog is a leading designer, developer and marketer of innovative, technology-based educational products and related proprietary content. They are focused on developing products that will provide the most engaging, effective learning experience – for all ages, in school or home, around the world. We have used their products in the past to help my daughter learn her ABC’s and jumped at the chance to work with this great company!

Our LeapReader “Ready, Set, Read & Write” Party:

My good friend Janie helped me organize a group of children whose ages ranged from 3 years to 9 years of age.  LeapFrog sent me a big box of tools to use for the party and all the kids were able to enjoy the goodies that LeapFrog sent over.  They sent over two LeapReaders, some LeapReader books, a Talking Words Factory Writing Workbook, Talking Words Factory Flash Cards, Invites and Award Certificates and product fact sheets and activity sheets for the kids. For the younger children, I set up a table and had them learn to write letters with the Mr. Pencil Writing Workbook.  It was great because one of the moms – who is a mom of four – was astounded that her little Eliza could write so well as she hadn’t started practicing this with her yet. Eliza went straight to the table I set up and started tracing the letters immediately.  And little Nora (see above) was really enjoying tracing the letters of the alphabet as well with the Mr. Pencil Writing Workbook.

We started the party off by reading the Get Ready for Kindergarten book since most of the children were in kindergarten.  It was fun as I had each child come up and help me use the LeapReader with the book.  The LeapReader is a reading and writing system that children as young as 4 to 8 years of age.  It helps them to learn how to read and write by helping sound out words and read sentences.  They can also trace the letters to help teach them how to write with step-by-step guidance.  They offer over 150+ audio books, music and much more to choose from depending on what your child’s interests are!  The older children helped the younger kids figure out how to use the LeapReader and Eliza (see above) was easily able to use it to read the story.

My daughter helped organize the party beforehand and we talked about having a “Read, Write, and Listen” Lounge which ended up being our large sofa so all the kids could fit and we used our coffee table as the desktop.  For the writing section, LeapFrog provided us with some handouts that helped the younger kids learn how to write their ABCs and the older kids had worksheets that asked them to write down the first letter of the picture and then spell it out.

What I love about the LeapFrog’s LeapReader and the books that they offer is they really make the learning experience enjoyable.  They sent us a copy of the new Disney-Pixar Monsters University 3D book along with some 3D glasses to use at the party and this was a big hit!  I had each of the children come up and help interact with the story using the LeapReader and afterwards we talked about the story after we finished reading it.  At one point, I held up the LeapReader and we all listened to Mike tells us about heading off to Monster’s University.

The LeapReader solution includes three essential learning experiences for kids.  These  experiences include Learn to Read where they learn how to sound out words, read sentences, and lets kids play games and puzzles.  Learn to Write helps them interactive guidance as they practice writing letters and numbers on special mess-free writing paper, and enables them to Learn through Listening with their wide selection of audio books, learning songs and trivia challenges that help build comprehension skills and vocabulary.  The LeapFrog LeapReader is a great learning tool for parents to use and help them teach their kids a love of writing and reading.  The other day I had my daughter practice her reading with the LeapReader and she read through the entire Monster’s Inc. book.  She usually spends her downtime on the iPad but with this new reading tool, I plan to carve out some time for her to practice her reading skills instead!  After the party, we handed out a LeapFrog Certificate for each of the kids and you can see how much fun they all had!
