Ask the Doctor :: Overindulgence Prevention 101

Ask the Doctor:

Question: Last holiday season, I drank a little too much alcohol and ate too much food. Do you have any tips for the occasional overindulgence?

Tis the season of celebrating with family, friends and holiday treats. It’s good to enjoy this time of year; spending more time with your loved ones, yet, we tend to overindulge a bit and forget to listen to our bodies (that are clearly telling us to stop eating and drinking). Below are a few preventable tips to remember and also what do if the excitement overshadowed and thus the prevention was not heard.

Overindulgence Prevention 101

1. Don’t go hungry to a party: Eat a good protein rich meal beforehand.

2. Be hydrated. Sipping some champagne, or egg nog in moderation is fine but we tend to forget to drink water. Alternate alcohol and sugaring drinks with water, or better yet, allow yourself only one “holiday” drink.

3. Sleep. No one needs to stay up to midnight or later during the holidays. Try to keep a schedule as regular as possible. Your body prefers structure.

4. Think color. When at home or at a party, remember to eat as much colorful whole foods as possible. They are not only fiber rich and will fill you up, they are packed with nutrients to keep your immune system strong.

You’ve Overindulged

1. Give yourself a break… unless you see that you are doing it quite often! Everyone has slips and it’s okay.

2. Drink water with lemon… a whole lemon. Lemon is good for the liver ( helps with detoxifying), refreshing, and full of nutrients. You can also find a Liver Tea at your local health food store – your liver will appreciate it.

3. Homeopathic Nux Vomica 30 C could be your best friend during the holiday season. The most prominent indication to taking the remedy is overdoing it with food and alcohol. If by chance you do overindulge, take 3 pellets under the tongue before you go to bed and immediately when you get up.

4. Innate Renewal Green Powder. This is a favorite green powder. It tastes good, alkalizing, packed with antioxidants, effective in detoxifying and has many digestive enzymes. Take before bed and first thing in the morning. Purchase supplements by clicking here.

Happy Holiday!
