Batkid Saves San Francisco and Warms Hearts

A couple weeks ago, I was sent an email from Clever Girls Collective about a little boy named Miles, who has been battling leukemia since he was 18 months old (thankfully it is in remission), and asked that I help spread the word about an incredible event that was happening on November 15th in San Francisco.  They were working with the San Francisco Make-A-Wish Foundation to help turn this little boy’s obsession with comic books into a day he (and the rest of the country) won’t forget.  All day long, the city of San Francisco helped Miles fight bad guys, rescue a damsel in distress, and drive around with Batman in the Batmobile.

In a time of constantly being bombarded with news that tends to focus on the negative aspects of society (I don’t turn on the news for this reason), it is so heartwarming to see thousands of people come together to help a family create a special day for their son who has had to go through so much at such a young age.  And to see the power of social media play it’s part is quite awe-inspiring.  All day long you could see the hashtag #SFBatkid played out across Twitter with pictures of Miles and his sidekick Robin (another Make-A-Wish recipient) help fight crime in Gotham City.  And literally thousands of San Franciscans came out to cheer Miles on and support him on his quest to find the bad guy!

This story reminds me of the power of a thought than can turn into so much more.  The San Francisco Make-A-Wish Foundation, with the help of the Clever Girls Collective and thousands of others helped create magic and touch many lives.  My husband and I got teary-eyed reading about the way everyone came together to create this awesome day for a family and child who have gone through so much.  I am inspired by all of these acts of kindness and want to encourage you to continue with your acts of kindness with your friends and family and strangers.  You can never underestimate the power of a single act and how that might affect a person’s day or even life!  So though this day was about Miles and his fight to save San Francisco, in fact turned into a day that warmed so many hearts.  Thank you Batkid for saving San Francisco, but for also reminding us that there are so many wonderful aspects about our society!

Here’s to seeing more hopeful and inspiring stories like the Batkid!
