Latest & Greatest :: Disney’s New Storybook App Frozen

We had one of those nights last night.  You know where your child is up in the middle of the night and can’t seem to get settled.  Needless to say we didn’t get much sleep, so we are planning a relaxing day after school and headed to see the new Disney movie Frozen.  I can’t wait as I have heard from several of my mom friends that this is a really great movie and that they even cried at the end!  So we are super excited about reviewing the new Frozen app created by Disney.  The first page opens up and we see the two main characters, Princess Anna and her older sister Princess Elsa dancing on ice.  We have the option to READ it to ourselves or have it read to us.  Also, there is a PLAY section, that offers a whole selection of fun games such as FREE DRAW, PUZZLES, and the very interesting SNOW GLOBE.  When you touch this it takes you to an image of the sky.  You are told to touch the screen to create a snowflake.  I like that you that you can create your picture of snowflakes slowly, or use the brush and draw a really large one that covers the whole screen. At any point, you can click on the eraser at the bottom and start over.

The story starts off and tells us that:

Summer had arrived at last in the little kingdom of Arendelle.  Even the youngest ice harvesters were hard at work, gathering ice for the warm months ahead. As night set in, they headed home, with the Northern Lights to guide them.

Then we find Princess Anna and Elsa creating a magical frozen playground inside the castle.  This gives a clue that Princes Elsa has some magical powers.  But something happened, and Anna was taken by the King and Queen to see the trolls.  When you touch the characters they do some simple animation, like when you touch the troll, he waves his arms over the sleeping little Anna and a magical green and yellow light floats above her head.

One of the more interesting features of this app, and one I haven’t seen in others, is if you flip the device upside down, we are told Princess Elsa’s story.  So you can go back and forth between stories!  I don’t want to get to into the story but it really is  a wonderful tale and takes me back to being a kid again.  You know that excitement you had when you watched Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs or Cinderella.  Well, Frozen, takes you back when you believed in magic and princesses, trolls, princes, etc.  A great addition for your little princess or tomboy!  There are even clips from the movie included in the app, like when Elsa accidentally almost froze everything in sight at the ball where Anna was dancing with her future husband, Hans.  Ice flew from Elsa’s hand and spiraled across the room.  Intrigued?  Me too! Something is amiss with poor Elsa and her magical powers!
