Food :: Krusteaz’s New Flat Bread Mixes are Perfect for Dinner

I like cooking with my kids. I especially like cooking things that are fun and easy and don’t require a lot of preparation. So, I was happy to be given the chance to try out the new baking mixes by Krusteaz. I was given a kit that included three new varieties of the Krusteaz Flat Bread mixes – Whole Wheat, Italian Herb and Garlic & Onion. The new flat bread mixes are perfect for sandwiches, pizza crusts or dipping.

On our first try we used the Italian Herb. We threw together a quick pot of spaghetti and I realized this would be a good addition to the meal and a great opportunity to try out the mix. The box includes the mix and a yeast package. All we had to add is water and vegetable oil. We put everything into the bowl, mixed it all together into a moist dough-ball, covered it, and let it sit for 10-20 minutes to rise. The directions on the back of the box give you a few different options for dividing it with pan sizes and yields. We chose to divide ours into two balls and roll them into flat rounds. After baking for about 10 minutes, we removed them from the oven, let them cool, and sliced them into bread sticks. The flavor was great and they were perfect for dipping in the spaghetti sauce.

For our second try, we used the Whole Wheat and the Garlic & Onion to make pizza crust. We used each ball to roll out a flat crust and baked them for about 8-10 minutes. We took them out of the oven, added our toppings and put them back in the oven to finish the pizzas. The wheat crust was a little thicker, but both mixes worked great as a crust – a little softer than regular pizza crust so some of it crumbled, but it was still yummy and the kids loved making it and eating it.

The mixes are great to have on hand. They are easy to put together and easy to work with. I especially liked that it only required 10-20 minutes to rise so I could add it to meals even on relatively short notice. I’ll definitely be keeping a few of these on hand in the pantry to add to our meals.
