If you are a parent looking for a better way to help your child learn to spell, I’m here to share something great with you! I homeschool, and was on the lookout for new material to add to our language arts curriculum. At the beginning of the year we purchased some language arts workbooks from Houghton Mifflin, but they ended up just being “busy work” worksheets for my son. I didn’t feel like he was learning anything new, and the workbooks didn’t give me any tools to help teach him.

I found a company online called All About Learning Press. Created by Marie Rippel, a homeschool mother and language arts specialist, All About Learning Press offers reading and spelling programs that are multi-sensory and mastery-based. What I love about these programs is that they include tangible materials like word cards and letter tiles for visual and hands-on learning. And the books are scripted so you can open the teachers’ guide and get on with your lesson. No extra planning required. All About Reading and All About Spelling are complete phonics programs, and when you start from the beginning, you are able to introduce all of the phonograms to your child in a meaningful order while giving them time and practice to master the words, sounds and spelling of each element.

I ordered the All About Spelling Level 2 set for my son and we absolutely love it. There are many great things about homeschool, but it can get boring when using curriculum that is weighted heavily on filling out worksheets. The language arts portion of our day used to be pretty uneventful. Now, we use All About Spelling and we get to interact and build words on our white board and learn the rules of spelling together. Even my three year old gets in on the fun.  It’s only been a short time since we put this program into place in my home but we are learning, and we are having fun, and that of course is a win-win.  I can’t wait to get the All About Reading program.

These award winning programs are perfect for homeschool, and were developed with parents like me in mind. But you don’t have to homeschool to benefit. If your child is struggling with spelling in school you can use All About Spelling as a supplemental program at home to help him learn and grow. And the lessons only take about 20 minutes each. The All About Spelling Program has also received sparkling reviews from parents and educators looking for a way to help children with learning disabilities such as dyslexia.

Take a few minutes to browse through the All About Learning Press website to see all the wonderful things they have to offer. You can even download free samples of their programs to see if it’s a right fit for you. Happy learning!
