Netflix’s New Series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

From “30 Rock” executive producers Tina Fey and Robert Carlock comes this hilarious comedy series starring Ellie Kemper (“The Office,” “Bridesmaids”) as a woman who is rescued from a doomsday cult and starts life over as a nanny for a socialite (Jane Krakowski from “30 Rock”) in New York City.  I loved watching Ellie on The Office and appreciate her talent.  I think she is so funny in a witty and subtle way!

Armed with just a backpack, light-up sneakers and a couple of past-due library books, she takes on a world she didn’t think even existed anymore. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt also stars Ellie Kemper, Jane Krakowski, and Tituss Burgess. This show is quite quirky and witty!

As part of the Netflix Stream Team they asked me to write about a time when I,  like Kimmy, had to “catch up” to present day.  You know how it is with a little one!  We are so busy changing diapers, making dinners and doing everything to keep our little person alive, it’s pretty easy to tune out everything else. We may know the theme song from Sofia the First, but maybe we are left wondering, Sam Smith, who? But as our kids grow older, we finally have time to catch up on life — kind of like how Kimmy re-enters the world after 15 years below ground. I can relate in many ways!

I think I wore yoga gear up until my daughter was in kindergarten. I was always amazed at the moms who always looked pulled together even with a little one. I was not one of those moms! But now that my daughter is older, I do have more time, and this past year I have really made an effort to work on me.  It started with de-cluttering my home – room by room, closet by closet.

By going through my wardrobe, I was able to see what was missing and what needed to head out the door!

It was great going through my closet because I got (finally) got rid of clothes that frankly should have been out of my closet years ago!  After going through each piece of clothing I was able to see what was missing in my closet (shoes!) and definitely not anymore black sweaters (had over ten).  Since we have an awesome re-sale boutique in our area I don’t feel guilty updating my wardrobe with the deals I get there!  I highly recommend this plan of action since you don’t need to break the bank to get some new clothes that make you feel like you again!

You can follow our de-cluttering series and start on Day One – or jump in on any day/room you choose. It helps to get your house in order and have out only what you really love and use. So like Kimmy, I am happy to report that I too, am catching up with the times and more motivated to make the effort!

What are some positive changes you’ve made recently in your life?
