Minions :: A Movie Review, Giveaway and Party Ideas

We had a chance to attend a prescreening of Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s Minions a few weekends ago and I have to say it is my daughter’s absolute favorite movie she has seen so far this summer.  I do think Inside Out is a close second since we’ve seen it five times already but something about these funny little yellow guys had our whole family laughing throughout the movie.  At the start of the movie we see that Minions began at the dawn of time where they started as single-celled yellow organisms and evolved through the ages, perpetually serving the most despicable of masters.  Continuously unsuccessful at keeping these masters—from T. rex to Napoleon—the Minions find themselves without someone to serve and fall into a deep depression.  Watching them lose one leader after another (usually accidentally at their own hands) is pretty entertaining.

But one Minion, Kevin, has a plan and rallies the entire Minion crew asking for volunteers to help him locate a new leader.  So off go teenage rebel Stuart and lovable little Bob venture out into the world to find a new evil boss for his brethren to follow. You can’t help but fall in love with all three of them!  Kevin because he has such a big heart, teenage rebel Stuart because he tries so hard and little Bob because he is just so little and sweet!

The trio embarks upon a thrilling journey that ultimately leads them to their next potential master, Scarlet Overkill (Academy Award® winner Sandra Bullock), the world’s first-ever female super-villain.  They travel from frigid Antarctica to 1960s New York City, ending in mod London, where they must face their biggest challenge to date: saving all of Minionkind…from annihilation.

Starring Sandra Bullock, Jon Hamm, Michael Keaton, Allison Janney & Steve Coogan and  directed by: Pierre Coffin & Kyle Balda, we found Minions to be a wonderful family film.  My husband and daughter went absolutely crazy over this movie and both said how much they enjoyed it.  If you liked Despicable Me 1 & 2 I think you will fall in love with Minions as well.  Jon Hamm is great and honestly, does not sound at all like Jon Hamm (especially not Don Draper if you are a fan of Mad Men).  He does a great job at sounding just like his character looks – a little goofy yet hip at the same time.  And I can say the same about Sandra Bullock.  You hear traces of her but she too gets into her role as Scarlet Overkill and you believe she is this female super-villain.  It really is a fun story and these three and the rest of the Minion crew make it really entertaining to watch.

Host a Minion Banana Split Party!

We hosted a little Minion banana split/pool party for some of the kids from school the other day and had a blast.  The kids are super excited to see this movie – out on July 10th – and my daughter told her pals that she gives the movie a thumbs up!

To download the free Minion outfit go to the Party Delights site.  It literally took my daughter and I less than five minutes to glue their outfits on.  We were short on time so I just did the top bunch but you can do all of them if you have some time.  It doesn’t take long but the kids loved it!

We decided to host this party at our neighborhood pool and it was really easy to set up and prepare.  Having a banana split/pool party about blew their eight year old minds and it was good that they could burn off some of that energy!  Hope you enjoy the new Minions movie as much as we did!
