Dinotrux :: A Netflix and DreamWorks Television Series Review
Dinotrux :: A Netflix and DreamWorks Animation Television Series Review
Dinotrux Premiere:
My boys and I attended a prescreening of Netflix and DreamWorks Animation’s new animated television series Dinotrux this week. Dinotrux is based on the award-winning series of children’s books written by Chris Gall. Dinotrux takes place in the Mechazoic Era inhabited by half dinosaur and half construction vehicles. The main character is Ty-Rux, a friendly T-Trux who is a combination Tyrannosaurus Rex and megatron excavator. Ty-Rux has to leave his home after it is destroyed by a volcanic eruption. He befriends Revvit, a Reptool with a tape measure tongue. Together they work to build a new home along with other friendly Dinotrux and Reptools. They have to protect their new home from D-Struct, a ruthless Tyrannosaurus Rex and excavator, who refuses to share his territory. The first 10 episodes share the themes of community, friendship, and teamwork.
Dinosaurs + Trucks = DINOTRUX
I thought this was a very creative and engaging series. Kids love dinosaurs and trucks, so this is a winning combination for an animated series. My boys loved the previews! I could not pull my five-year-old away from his viewing rock. My ten-year-old was enthralled with the animation and creative aspect of the show. They were also singing part of the catchy intro song in the car on the way home, “Crush it! Smash it! Move it! Lift it!” I appreciated the lesson of working together for a common goal.
We previewed the series at the Hollywood Athletic Club. When we walked into the room, it was filled with all things Dinotrux. Our eyes immediately went to the gigantic screen that was playing three of the shows from the series. My boys loved sitting on huge rock seats and privately listening to the show on their own set of headphones. After we finished viewing the series, we took a spin on the obstacle course being watched over by a one story tall Ty-Rux.
The kids loved the Dinotrux and DreamWorks Color App:
Next, we checked out the Dinotrux App and the DreamWorks Color App. Both were a blast to play with, but quite different. The Dinotrux App brings the show to life on your computer. It is a great companion to the series. The DreamWorks Color App will bring your drawing to life in 3-D. They were both a hit with my boys. We ended the evening playing with the Dinotrux toys at the sand table. These toys will be available at Toys ‘R’ Us later this year. There was also a display of a Dinotrux-inspired clothing line available at Gymboree. I think this series will be very popular, and I was happy to see they already had Dinotrux toys and clothing lined up.
This was a truly memorable evening for my boys and me. They did not want to leave the preview, and they can not wait to start viewing the series on Netflix. Dinotrux debuted on Netflix on August 14, 2015. It is a winning collaboration between DreamWorks Animation and Netflix. Be sure to check it out on Netflix and download the Apps on your computer or phone.
Note: We were invited to a preview of the Dinotrux series at the Hollywood Athletic Club. This did not affect our opinion in any way.
