Shaun the Sheep Review, Craft Ideas and Giveaway

Lately my daughter has been very interested in making stop-motion videos.  She has been using her Minecraft characters to make these short clips using the LEGO Video App.  I’ll have to post one of her video’s!  She loves to show off her work to us and I think it is great that she is being creative.  When we heard that the stop-motion animated television series Shaun the Sheep was coming out with a movie we couldn’t wait to go see it! The British series features Shaun and is a spin-off of the Wallace and Gromit franchise.

After school on Friday we headed to our favorite local theater and watched it.  I have to be honest in that I didn’t know a lot about the series but gosh, after watching this movie I am a huge fan, and a bit obsessed with anything to do with Shaun the Sheep and his pals.  What is amazing to me is that there is barely any speaking by any of the characters but somehow the story is told using this stop-motion technology and it is such a cute movie!  I don’t like to use the word cute too much, but that is exactly what Shaun and his sheep friends are – SO cute.  And wait until you see the baby sheep with his little teddy bear.  Oh, you just might fall in love with him like I did!

But don’t get me wrong – this movie is for the whole family!  In fact, we had a group of 5th grade boys sitting in front of us at the theater and they were thoroughly enjoying the movie as much as we were.  It is really funny and you can’t help but laugh at all the predicaments they find themselves in. Shaun the Sheep is the big-screen adaptation of the hit TV series and comes from Aardman Animations,  the creators of Chicken Run and Wallace and Gromit.  This story is about living life to the fullest, new adventures, friendship and the meaning of family.  I think you will love it as much as we did.

Fun Fact: It took nearly 10 days to build one clay “Shaun The Sheep” model. The crew created a total of 21 different body doubles and 116 different sheep.  Considering it took 17 animators to complete 2 seconds of animation per day, it would take 1 animator nearly 9 years to shoot the film alone!  More fun facts can be found here on Fandango Family.

Here’s a short clip of the movie:
