The Peanuts Movie Brings Back Memories
Ever since I’ve seen a preview for The Peanuts movie at a Knott’s Berry Farm event last year, I have been on the edge of my seat waiting to see this movie. I absolutely LOVE the entire crew and use to carry around a stuffed Snoopy as a kid. Because of my fascination with all things Peanuts, I’ve interviewed and featured Charles M. Schulz wife and his son Craig (who shared with me that he was the inspiration for Pigpen – shhh!). He shared this with me after I told him our (secret) nickname for my daughter is Pigpen. At pickup at school she usually looks like she rolled around in the dirt at recess. Oh well, a dirty kid is happy kid!
You didn’t have grow up in the 70’s to enjoy the new Peanuts movie. Meaning that this crew are current and anyone at any age will fall in love with them! Back in the day we didn’t have 2000 channels to choose from and if you wanted to watch a special on TV, you better watch it that night as there was no TiVo. Not to age myself here or anything, but The Peanuts were a big part of our childhood and we would look forward to Charlie Brown Christmas every year!
Fast forward to 2015, and I have to say the movie is just perfect. Perfect for the kids and big kids at heart. The animation is different from the more classic Peanut shows but I would like to think that if Charles M. Schulz were alive today he would have used this technology as well. The essence of The Peanuts Crew is still there but stylized in a more modern fashion.
Here’s our take:
Your Family’s Moviegoing Persona
Moviegoers: Mom (age: forever 28), Dad (age: 46) Kate (age: 9).
Family faves: The Incredibles, Wall-E, Monsters, Inc.
Fave movies for grown-ups: The Big Lebowski, Sense and Sensibility, The Godfather
Your Review of The Peanuts: see above
What’s the story: The delightfully hilarious gang from The Peanuts returns after 35 years for their silver screen debut. Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus and friends on a new epic adventure while Snoopy tracks down his nemesis, the Red Baron. Charles M. Schulz’s iconic characters are brought to life in state of the art 3D animation from Blue Sky Studios, the creators of the Ice Age films. (Source: Fandango).
What parents may like about this movie: For parents, the story has a great message about overcoming your fears and triumphing through hardships.
What kids will like: My daughter liked when Charlie Brown wrote his book report on War and Peace. She loves to write so she rather enjoyed watching Charlie Brown go through the process of writing his report for the classroom.
Concerns: No concerns. This movie would be great for little ones on up.
Bottom Line
I was just so happy watching this movie with my daughter. It brought back such wonderful childhood memories for myself and I loved that I could share this new Peanuts adventure with her! I highly recommend you see this with your crew! 5/5
Positive themes: I liked how Charlie Brown shows what it means to be a good big brother and friend.
Violence/scare factor: There is no violence or scary parts.
Sex/Romance: None.
Bad language: None.

I’d like to see Good Dinosaur, and the Peanuts Movie with the kids. I’m not even sure what is out there for grownups… 🙂 Last year we went on Thanksgiving Eve as a little family outing and it was nice to relax before the traveling from house to house started.
