Comic Con 2016 delivers and then some!

Captain Stardust and Ginja Snap are into Comic Con!

This week I had a chance to sit down with the filmmakers, producer and stars of the upcoming Dream Works Animation movie Trolls Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick at Comic Con in San Diego.  And when I say sit-down, I mean at a round-table setting within feet of the one and only JT!  Yes, I was in heaven. Be sure to check out my post in the coming weeks about this interview and I’ll share some funny stories with you all like when Justin broke out singing Madonna’s “Like a Virgin” for us mom bloggers (we all about died).  I can say he was super down-to-earth as was Anna and I would even use the word shy to describe him.  Maybe he was a bit intimated by a group of mom bloggers ogling over him?  Just kidding, we all handled ourselves but it took some restraint to do so.

I wanted to share with you the whole Comic Con experience because let me say – it. was. a. trip!  From the costumes, masses of enthused people whose ages ranged from kids to seniors (who have probably been attending since back in the day), to the Artists Alley, Comic Con is something everyone should experience in their lifetime.

San Diego Comic-Con International is a multi-genre entertainment and comic convention held annually in San Diego, California.  It was founded as the Golden State Comic Book Convention in 1970 by a group of San Diegans, which included Shel Dorf, Richard Alf, Ken Krueger, and Mike Towry; later, it was called the “San Diego Comic Book Convention”.  It is a four-day event (Thursday–Sunday) held during the summer at the San Diego Convention Center.  On the Wednesday evening prior to the official opening of the event, there is a preview for professionals, exhibitors, and select guests pre-registered for all four days.

Originally showcasing primarily comic books and science fiction/fantasy related film, television, and similar popular arts, the convention has since included a larger range of pop culture and entertainment elements across virtually all genres, including horror, animation, anime, manga, toys, collectible card games, video games, webcomics, and fantasy novels.  According to Forbes, the convention is the “largest convention of its kind in the world;” Publishers Weekly wrote “Comic-Con International: San Diego is the largest show in North America;”it is also the largest convention held in San Diego. In 2015, it filled the San Diego Convention Center to capacity with more than 167,000 attendees. Apparently the tickets aren’t that expensive but it is difficult to get one.  I was lucky to get a ticket because I was covering the Trolls media junket but I heard from several attendees that it is the coveted golden ticket – think Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory.  If you are thinking about attending next year, check out their site for more information about getting a ticket  – just don’t wait!  From hotel rooms to tickets to Comic Con, you want to get a move on it now!  Good luck!

Here are some of my favorite costumes we came across at Comic Con.

Met these two ghostbusters at the SyFy “Live from Comic Con” event that night.  I was able to sneak in (shhh)  to the live event held at the Marriott Marquis overlooking the San Diego Marina and saw Will Arnett (love him) host and some famous guests like Zachary Levi stopped by.
