Family :: Tips for Making TV Night Extra Special

Sneaking in a snack after 9 pm. “Helping” your kids with their school projects. Googling answers on family game night. We’ve all cheated. In fact, 46% of viewers are cheating right now—with their favorite Netflix shows. And it’s not just parents who are culprits of the crime, cheaters come in all sizes, so even the littlest ones can’t be trusted.

I’ve been known to possibly sneak a bite (or two) of cake or chocolate when the kid isn’t looking (and I am sure she’s done the same!).  And when it comes to watching certain shows such as Stranger Things I wait until she is in bed.  Sometimes its nice to have the TV to yourself or sans kids with the hubby!  For those nights and family nights – here are some tips and shows you might want to check out this month!

Family TV night may happen only once a week, so good luck waiting for the next episode in this truly cheat-worthy lineup.

Pick Up!

I don’t know about you but I like to enjoy my TV night when the place is picked up.  Maybe not the entire house (that’s asking too much) but at least the room that we are watching our shows on.  Take a few minutes and have the kids help pick things up as well.  It feels so much more relaxing when the place is neat. You can make it a game even – have each kid throw as many items in a laundry basket and whoever gets the most items in a 5 minute span gets to pick the first movie or show.

Order Take-Out:

Make these nights in a total you night.  Order In I say!  I love getting the chicken and vegetable kabobs from our local Luna Grill and sitting in front of the TV eating dinner.  Hey, at least we aren’t eating one of those Salisbury Steak TV Dinners.  Remember those?  Who else use to eat those as a kid?   Anyhow, I definitely think moms and dads need a night off of cooking so treat yourself and order take-out for family TV night.

Pour Yourself a Cup of Joe or Tea

Whichever you prefer!  Or maybe enjoy a cocktail if you are so inclined.  I like drinking caffeine-free tea while enjoying some of my favorite shows.  What about you?

Snuggle up by the fire:

If the weather permits, be sure to have a fire going!  I turn the fire on in the mornings while I work and at night while watching some TV.  It really sets up a nice and cozy mood.

Invite the Kids:

And if you are enjoying family TV night, create a popcorn bar!  We did this for The Oscars and it took little to no time to get it together.  Just be sure to get everyone’s favorite popcorn flavors!

What show are you streaming on Netflix these days?
