The Comedy “The House” Premieres June 30th

In partnership with Warner Bros. Pictures

Parents will do just about anything to help support their children’s dreams and wishes!  So I think many people will be able to relate to new comedy The House starring Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler who find themselves in a rough situation after losing their daughter Alex’s college fund.   Scott and Kate Johansen become desperate to earn it back so she can pursue her dream of attending a university. With the help of their neighbor Frank (Jason Mantzoukas), they decide to start an illegal casino in his house.

I think back at my husbands and my own experiences of supporting our daughter’s aspirations.  A couple years ago”Santa” brought our then 3 1/2 year old a drum set because she had shown interest in one at our local music shop.  The other moms at school couldn’t believe how “nice” Santa was for doing that and wondered out loud what our neighbors would think.  Fast forward a couple years, and many trips to drum lessons that are in another city because we couldn’t find a drum teacher in our city (drums are considered too loud), and hours of practicing, our little drummer is getting pretty good!  We’ve tried to encourage her to try out for her school talent show, but she is too shy still to play in a large crowd.  I can’t blame her but I think about all those hours my husband, grandparents and myself have put in driving her to and from lessons.  But hey, that’s all part of this thing called parenting and I know we all have put a lot of time into making sure our kids are well-rounded and happy.

The comedy “The House” also stars Nick Kroll (“Vacation,” TV’s “Kroll Show”), Allison Tolman (TV’s “Fargo”), Michaela Watkins (TV’s “Transparent”), Ryan Simpkins (“Arcadia”), Jessie Ennis (TV’s “Veep” and “Better Call Saul”), Rob Huebel (“Horrible Bosses 2,” TV’s “Transparent”), Cedric Yarbrough (TV’s “Reno 911!”) and Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner (“The Town,” “The Hurt Locker,” “Arrival”).
