The Lion King Sing-Along at the Greek Theater – A Magical Night Under the Stars

Last Saturday, August 5th, fans and Hollywood stars alike were transported to the Pride Lands to enjoy a magical night at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles for a special screening of The Lion King Sing-Along. The Lion King is the fifth Blu-ray film to be inducted into the Disney Signature Collection series and will arrive on Digital HD on August 15 and Blu-ray/DVD on August 29.

Disney and Fandango teamed up to offer a fun VIP pre-party at the Fandango Lounge. Timon and Rafiki were waiting to meet eager guests and there were delicious snacks and fun activities for adults and kids alike. There was such a joyful and carefree vibe as Hollywood stars and their families mingled with fans in a setting where everyone’s inner child was set free.

At 8:00pm the seats under the stars in the iconic open-air Greek Theater were filled with hundreds of families waiting to experience the 23 year old Lion King in a whole new way. We were so excited to be sitting surrounded by Hollywood stars and their kids, all just as excited as we were for the movie to begin.

The evening began with the incredible Tshidi Manye, who plays Rafiki on Broadway, singing the powerful Circle of Life to an excited audience singing the opening verse at the top of their lungs.

As the movie began, voices filled the theater with singing and chanting and hundreds of hands went up to mimic Rafiki as he raises cub Simba into the sky during the song Circle of Life. The energy in the theater was incredible as the crowd sang each song, recited famous lines, and laughed and cheered during their favorite scenes. The joyful crowd never lost its energy as song after song – Hakuna Matata, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, I Just Can’t Wait to be King, and Be Prepared – was sung with childlike enthusiasm.

The Lion King Sing-Along truly was one of the most magical and memorable experiences my family has ever had. There was just something amazing about sitting under the stars on a warm and beautiful summer evening, surrounded by hundreds of beloved Disney stars and fans, all of us singing our hearts out, and feeling like part of one of the most classic and iconic Disney films of all time.
