The Power of Women in Sports
Title Nine Celebrates 1970’s Milestones
That Opened the Floodgates for Women to Lead
Women’s Apparel Company Promotes Battle of the Sexes Film
to Educate Women and Girls About the Power of Sports and Fitness
Title Nine (titlenine.com), a women’s athletic and outdoor apparel company, announces a promotional partnership with the newly released BATTLE OF THE SEXES film as part of its celebration of milestones in women’s sports and history. In the 1970’s, three landmark events opened the floodgates for women: Title IX legislation, Billy Jean King’s match with Bobby Riggs, and the invention of the sports bra. The partnership underscores Title Nine’s commitment to supporting women’s leadership on and off the court. As part of the promotional partnership, Title Nine hosted a BATTLE OF THE SEXES sweepstakes and will feature an exclusive interview with Billy Jean King and Title Nine founder, Missy Park on their website.
“We want more girls and women to know the story of this epic tennis match that helped breakdown barriers both on and off the court; that’s why this partnership with BATTLE OF THE SEXES is so exciting for us,” comments Missy Park, founder of Title Nine. “Sports and fitness are the foundation for a fit life, and there are no two pieces of equipment more important than a good pair of running shoes and, of course, a great sports bra.”
From about the age of eight, I was pretty active in soccer and into high school, I joined the swim team and cheerleading team (yes, this can get pretty physical and I was always the one climbing to the top in the stunts – yikes!). I remember thinking how unattractive (read: ugly) the sports bras were during that time, but things have really changed and companies like Title Nine not only offer a better fitting bra for athletes but also more design options!
Three Milestone Events That Changed the Game for Women
Title Nine is celebrating three significant historic events during the 70’s that broke down barriers for women in sports and empowered women and girls for generations to come. Here’s what women everywhere need to know about these milestone events:
- TITLE IX, EDUCATION AMENDMENT 1972: Title Nine believes that sports and athletics teach girls skills of leadership, endurance, perseverance, collaboration, and risk taking. Research suggests that girls who participate in sports are more likely to experience academic success, have higher levels of self-esteem, and are less likely to use drugs. Girls, teens and young women still reap the benefits of this important legislation that states “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.” (More information about the impact of Title IX at https://www.titlenine.com/

- BATTLE OF THE SEXES 1973: Title Nine celebrates important milestone events like this tennis match, and barrier breaking women like Billie Jean King. Through her sport, she became the face of a movement that showed the world that women are as capable as men and as deserving of equal opportunity. Thanks to the BATTLE OF THE SEXES film, a new generation of women and girls will be inspired by this story to further champion the cause of women’s equality in sports and society. - THE JOCK STRAP BRA, Circa 1977: The introduction of the sports bra was a game changer for female athletes and every day women. Did you know, the genesis of the first sports bra was inspired two jock straps sewn together? We’ve come a long way since then. Today, with so many options, Title Nine has dedicated themselves to being THE sports bra experts. For nearly 30 years, Title Nine has wear-tested thousands of sports bras to find only the best ones for their customers. Title Nine is the only women’s athletic apparel company to use a unique barbell rating system, combined with personalized bra fitting and an unmatched return policy, to ensure that every woman has the right support for her sport. Their bra fitting experts (called bravangelists) are available for media and public education to demonstrate how to find the perfectly fitted sports bra. I love that my daughter has always been very active in sports and we have tried soccer, surfing, basketball and more recently, skateboarding. She enjoys basketball and skateboarding the most and I am so happy she finds joy in being active! Whether they are participating in team sports or more solo activities like surfing and skateboarding, anything that brings them enjoyment and keeps them active is a win in my book!
To celebrate, Title Nine is offering a lucky dandelion mom a gift card valued at $75 to try out one of their sports bras. If you need to have a consultation from one of their sizing experts that is also available. Good Luck Dandelions!

I wanted to play sports, but my dad would not let me. A friend’s mom could not talk my dad into letting me join the swim team, even after giving him assurance that she would take me to practice everyday and to swim meets. He said it was too dangerous. Funny that my baby sister got to participate in sports. I would have loved to been on the swim team. My friend go a full ride scholarship to UC Santa Barbara. I was just as fast as my friend when we swam laps in my back yard swimming pool. Wish I was giving the chance to try and let the hidden champion inside, come out and shine. It is a huge bummer because I had an opportunity and my dad did not have to do anything allow me to do it and everything else was taken care of. The miss opportunity held me back far too many years and something I cannot try and get back at this stage in my life.
