7 Entryway Design Tips and Ideas

1). Landing Spot.  This could be a console table, bench or a Japanese Tansu or even dress of drawers.  Figure out how much space you have in this area and go from there.

2). Storage.  We store our dog’s lease, keys and knick knacks in a felt IKEA basket I found a few months back.  At the time I wasn’t sure what I was going to use it for but I love the contrast with the Japanese Tansu. Think about what you plan to use it for and buy the size you need.  IKEA has a ton of containers on the cheap!

3). Seating.  I found this cute felt orange bench on Overstock for a great price.  We use it quite often and even our cat likes to sit on it.  You’ll be surprised how much the family will use the bench!

4).  Mirror.  In our last home we didn’t have room for any type of entryway furniture but I did have a mirror hanging up by the front door.  I am on the look-out for a fun mirror to place in our entryway as they come in handy when you want to do a last check before you head out for the day.

5). Rug.  This is another addition I am on the look-out for.  I like having a rug right as you enter into the home to catch any debris and it so welcoming!

6). Coat Rack. This might be my favorite thing we have in our entryway.  When I was pregnant with my daughter I purchased this Herman Miller coat rack and though it was (too) pricey, it is a piece I will have forever!  You can find similar ones on Amazon. The coat rack will be a central place for handbags and backpacks.

7). Plants.  You can have a small plant on your console or find a cute plant stand at your local discount store.  I found this one at Marshalls for under $25. Just be sure that the plant will get enough light and check with the folks at the nursery to see which plants might work best in the space you have.  You can read our latest post about the best houseplants to have in your home here.

8). Art or family photo’s.  I like to have a colorful piece of artwork in our entryway because it is one of the first things we see coming home and the last thing we see leaving.  Hang a picture of the family or art that makes you smile!

Here are some more entryway design ideas!  Have a great time decorating this space.  Remember it should welcome you back home after a long day.
