Walt Disney Studios

Last week, in support for the Blu-ray and digital release of Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time, I was invited to go to Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California.  You all know me, I had to get dressed in my Minnie-inspired outfit!  See below what I came up with!  I was feeling very Disney-ish for the day. I had a chance to interview the two child stars – Storm Reid (Meg Murray) and Deric McCabe (Charles Wallace). In A Wrinkle in Time, they play siblings, and you quickly realize  what rising stars these two are because they definitely act like siblings do – from the bickering, joking around but overall tremendous love siblings can have for one another.

They are absolutely adorable together and loved that they were able to work on their first major film together.  Both felt that working with Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kahling helped put them at ease and they said they learned a lot from all three of these powerful women. And working with director, Ava DuVernay, was amazing.  They said Ms. DuVernay helped them discover their characters and was always open to any suggestions they might have with character development.

Interview With Catherine Hand

After hearing the producer of the film,Catherine Hand, speak about her love of the novel as a young girl, I wanted to run out and grab a copy of the book.  Her passion for the book and girlhood dream of making it into a major motion picture was a testament to going after one’s dreams – no matter how outlandish or huge they might seem!  She read the novel as a young girl and fell in love with the story and characters.  Years later she met the author, Madeleine L’Engle and established a lifelong friendship and earned her trust to become the steward for the film adaptation, an odyssey spanning over three decades.

Hand’s determination to bring “A Wrinkle in Time” to the screen has been a bridge between her love of movies and her passion for the public good.

Ms. Hand spoke about how she had hoped Disney Studios would be the ones to create the movie and is happy how the movie turned out.  She mentioned that L’Engle’s daughter consulted on some aspects of the film, and she felt mother would have loved Disney’s film adaptation.
