Tasty Mongolian Beef in Ginger Garlic Sauce

My husband has wanted to try making Mongolian Beef at home for like the past 20 years.  No joke!  He usually orders this when we eat out but we have yet to venture trying to make it at home.  That is until the other night we decided to give it a shot.  To say it is super easy is an understatement! We found this yummy recipe on Spend with Pennies.com.  Homemade meals always taste better.  And the fresh ginger and garlic sauce is amazing over white rice.  This just might turn into your favorite go-to Chinese dish!  We paired it with some steamed broccoli but just about any vegetable dish will go nicely with this recipe.

Here is all you need to try this meal at home this weekend.  Enjoy!

Ingredients Needed:

2 teaspoons + 2 tablespoons oil (the recipe calls for either olive or vegetable)

1/2 teaspoon fresh ginger (minced)

4 cloves garlic (finely minced)

1/2 cup soy sauce (low sodium is best with this dish)

1/4 cup water

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1 lb. flank steak (or your favorite cut of beef thinly sliced).

1/3 cup cornstarch

2 green onions (sliced)

How to Make Beef Tenderloin

Choose beef that is intended for quick cooking such as Flank Steak or Sirloin.

Cut the beef across the grain in thin slices

Toss the beef with cornstarch before cooking.  This is known as velveting and keeps the moisture inside the beef to keep it tender.

Heat the oil in the frying pan.

Don’t put all the pieces in at one time.  Cook in small batches as needed.

Instructions:

Heat the oil in a wok or frying pan over medium low.  Add in the ginger and garlic and stir for about one minute.  Add in the soy sauce, water and brown sugar to a slight boil.  Let boil a few minutes or until you see the sauce slightly thicken.  Set aside.

Slice the flank steak into 1/4″ slices and toss with cornstarch.  Shake off any excess cornstarch.

Place 1 tablespoon at a time of oil in a wok or pan over medium to high heat.  Cook the beef in small batches for about 2 minutes. Don’t worry if it isn’t cooked all the way through, it will cook completely when combined with the sauce.

Once the beef is cooked, combine with the ginger and garlic soy sauce and heat over medium until hot and bubbly.

Remove from heat and add in your preferred vegetables (can be on the side as well), add some fresh green onions and serve over rice.

Let me know how you like this yummy dish!
