On The Basis of Sex – Out in Select Theaters Now

In Select Theaters on Christmas Day, Wide on January 11th

ON THE BASIS OF SEX tells an inspiring and spirited true story that follows young lawyer Ruth Bader Ginsburg as she teams with her husband Marty to bring a groundbreaking case before the U.S. Court of Appeals and overturn a century of gender discrimination. The feature will premiere in 2018 in line with Justice Ginsburg’s 25th anniversary on the Supreme Court.

I had a chance to cover the AFI red carpet opening for On The Basis of Sex and see these amazing actors up close.  After the presentation at the TCL Chinese Theatre, we saw ON THE BASIS OF SEX and the entire time I kept thinking how I wanted to bring my daughter to see this movie.  The filmmakers did a wonderful job of showing us where we’ve been and what it took for women like Ruth Bader Ginsburg to get women to where they are today.

We’ve Come A Long Way

That expression “we’ve come a long way baby,” really is fitting after seeing this movie.  I know that there were a couple times throughout the movie when I gasped out loud at the now seemingly ridiculous laws that women had to face during those times.  Even as recently as the early 70’s women, weren’t allowed to own a credit card in their own name.  Seems quite crazy, right?  What Ruth Bader Ginsburg did, with the support of her husband, played by Armie Hammer, and other women, was create a more even playing field so that women had basic rights.  A very powerful movie you don’t want to miss this holiday season.  I do predict that Felicity Jones will be nominated this awards season.
