Dandelion Moms Project Kindness Joins #Giving Tuesday in December

I first heard about #Giving Tuesday from the crew over at Mom It Forward.  #GivingTuesday is a day for giving thanks.   On Tuesday December 3, 2013, global charities, families, businesses, community centers, students and more will come together to create #GivingTuesday. It’s a simple idea. Just find a way for your family, your community, your company or your organization to come together to give something more. Then tell everyone you can about how you are giving. Be a part of a national celebration of our great tradition of generosity.  There are 5 Giving Tuesdays this month so join in and help out where needed in your community.

Join us on #GivingTuesday:

Mom It Forward asked their network of mom bloggers to create a #GivingTuesday event on December 3rd and join forces with the United Nations Foundation and New York’s 92nd Street Y who has been the catalyst and incubator for #GivingTuesday, bringing the expertise of 139 years of community-management to the project, and providing #GivingTuesday a home.   I was happy to join forces with both groups to help out others in our community!  We decided  to support Project Night Night and The Sheepfold, a local women and children’s shelter here in Orange County.  Last year when I was dropping off some toys for the kids at the shelter drop-off location, I was surprised to find the door locked.  When I asked the staff about it,  they let me know that many of these women and children are coming from abusive and even dangerous situations so they keep their doors locked at all times for security reasons.  And this was just the drop-off location as the actual location of the shelter is not known to the public for safety reasons.  At that moment, my heart broke a bit with this knowledge and I made a vow to myself that I would help in whatever capacity I could.

Dandelion Moms Supporting a Local Shelter for Women and Children:

What I love about the Project Night Night tote bags is that they provide some comfort for these children who have found themselves in a shelter situation by no fault of their own, and many times with only the clothes on their back. The stuffed animal, baby blanket and children’s book that are provided in a cute Project Night Night tote bag just might help bring some comfort to these children.  So, in support of #GivingTuesday – we are going to be asking the community to join us on December 10th at 3:30 at a local park here in Irvine.  Even though the actual date of the event is December 3rd, if you would like to support your local shelter or another cause you feel passionate about – I think any day of the week is just fine! If you would like to donate for our cause please contact me by the contact form on the site or via email listed below.  We are in need of new baby blankets, new stuffed animals and a new or gently used children’s book. We would be happy to bring by your items to our local shelter.  But if you are interested in doing something in your area, please locate your local shelter and see what their needs might be.  You can always purchase a Project Night Night tote bag as well!

Thank you for your continued support dandelion moms in helping to spread seeds of kindness out into the world!
