5 Tips for Making Valentine’s Day Extra Special!

My husband and I disagree about Valentine’s Day.  He gets overwhelmed (and a bit annoyed) by all the hype surrounding Valentine’s Day and doesn’t get why we need one day to express or show our love to family and friends.  He aspires to show this daily and not on just one day.  I understand his thinking,  but my feeling is to not think you have to go over the top with diamonds, flowers and chocolates (but that’d be nice wouldn’t it?) but, instead think of it as a day of demonstrating how much you care about your family.  There is no pressure, just do what you are up to doing, and try to add in a couple little fun decorations and foods to celebrate all the love you have for each other.  People like to feel appreciated and valued, and I think this is a great way to do just that!  Here are some ideas to help make your Valentine’s Day extra special this year.  Enjoy!

Give a Personalized Gift

This personalized Heart Full of Love Cookie Jar from Personal Creations is just too cute!  You can choose up to 9 names (or words) and they will make something that you will probably have in your home forever.  I have a feeling this might be one of those treasured items that I will still have around the kitchen when my daughter comes home to visit from college because it will remind me of her childhood.  We even added our pets names on it as well as things we like to do together.

Simple Decorations

I picked up some inexpensive Valentine’s Day decorations at our local Marshalls.

I think I paid under $25 for all of this.  If you are crafty, you can always make your own banner and treat bag tags, but life can get busy and I find I end up spending less when I go these discount stores.  But by all means, if you have the materials you can definitely make your own banner, gift coupons and treat bag tags!

Put up the Be Mine banner up on your fireplace mantle and add some of the pretty party fans.  These fans could be used at any upcoming birthday party or other celebration.  Fun Tidbit:  When you attach the ends together don’t use the sticker they provide you but instead use a paper clip to attach the ends.  This way, you can reuse them again and again!

DIY Valentine’s Day Treats

This is a fun idea to do with the neighborhood kids.  I purchased some Valentine’s Day chocolates (reds and pink wrappers) at the grocery store, put them in a small fish bowl, and provided some plastic bags and tags so they can fill them up to their hearts desire.

These would also make a great teacher gift or for your favorite neighbor or two!

Create a Valentine’s Day Treat Bar

My daughter and I do love to bake together.  Well, I should say she likes to sneak sugar when she can while she is helping.  Pick out a favorite recipe and bake some goodies for the family.  Check out more ideas here.  For your Valentine’s Day Treat Bar add some strawberries, cookies you baked (though these are Albertson’s chocolate chip and taste amazing!), plates and napkins and the DIY treat bags.  Now you are set for a fun evening with the family!  Enjoy!
