March 4-5 & 11-12, Dana Point Festival of Whales

Celebrate gray whales as they make their annual migration from the Arctic down the West Coast to Baja, Mexico.  The Festival of Whales includes a parade with the whale-themed floats, whale-watching excursions and environmental activities, as well as sand sculpting, crafts and concerts.

March 4-5, Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters, Segerstrom Center for the Arts

When a great African king desires a wife, only the most perfect madens in the land are invited to join him.  Mufaro’s pride and joy, his two daughters of very different dispositions, travel a half-day’s journey through a mystical jungle to be presented to the king.  Along the way, the girls encounter a number of extraordinary situations designed to test their kindness, compassion and strength of spirit.

March 5-11, OC Restaurant Week

March 9th, Jouyssance Early Music Ensemble

Experience unaccompanied choral music of the medieval, renaissance, and early baroque arts.  This year the Ensemble will focus on rich and diverse choral music from the first half of the 16th century.  Sumptuous and spiritual music of giants like Josquin, Tallis, Morales, Taverner, Issac and others will be featured.  Refer to website for tickets.

March 17th, El Presidente Ball, El Adobe in San Juan Capistrano

Celebrate the origins of the Old West, in the early days of San Juan Capistrano.  Everyone is welcome and encouraged to come dressed in Western, Spanish, or Mexican or early California attire. Enter the Best-Dressed contest!  Enjoy some great food and old-fashioned fun while dancing under the stars (weather permitting) to live Country Western music.

March 18th, Sage Hill Muliticultural Fair, Sage Hill High School, Newport Coast

March 19th, Hungtinton Beach Cherry Blossom Festival

View beautiful cherry blossoms in full bloom and experience Japanese dance, music, food, cultural exhibits, arts, crafts and games.  Children’s activities include caligraphy, origami, and face painting.  This is a free event; donations are appreciated.

March 25th, Swallows Day Parade and Mercado Street Faire

See one of the nation’s largest non-motorized parades: the Fiesta de las Golondrinas celebrates the return of the swallows to the San Juan Capistrano Mission on St. Joseph’s Day (March 19th).  Before and after the parade, grab a bite to eat and enjoy live traditional country music at the Mercado Street Faire.

March 25th, A Day of Authors

Join more than 500 book lovers for “A Day of Authors,” where prominent authors inform and entertain.  This year’s authors include Walter Borneman, Laurie Frankel, and Gail Tsuldyama.  Proceeds from this event benefit the following community groups: St. Jude Medical Center’s “Healthy Beginnings,” Operation School Bell, Santa’s Closet, and Emergency Needs.

March 25, Spring Break at the Lake Mud Run

Celebrate spring break with a 5K beginning and ending at Irvine Lake.  The course includes hills, water, professionally built obstacles and over a dozen mud pits.  You will get wet and muddy so be sure to bring towels and a change of clothing.

March 30th, Taste of Dana

Savor fabulous food from over 20 local restaurants while you enjoy live entertainment.  There will also be a silent auction and a grand raffle.  Taste of Dana is the major fund-raiser for Dana Hills High School to support a safe, drug-free, and alcohol-free Grad Nite celebration.
