Labor Day is Neighbor Day on PBS Kids Daniel Tiger

One of the things I am most passionate about is helping to spread more kindness into the world!  Like the seeds of a dandelion, you can never know how an act of kindness will change or affect someone’s life.  That is one of the reason we created the dandelion moms project kindness and feature individuals and companies helping to spread kindness and good deeds towards others and how our lovely dandelion moms can help.   That is why I am so excited to tell you about PBS Kids Daniel Tiger episode that airs tomorrow, Labor Day, that teaches children about kindness towards their neighbors.  Anything that encourages our kids to treat others the way we would want to be treated is a winner in my book.  These acts are so key in helping raise empathetic and caring individuals.

Daniel Tiger learns what it means to do something kind for others and that giving to others can make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside!  I love how PBS Kids.org has a list of activities you can do with your children including a Neighborhood Scavenger Hunt that includes you looking for an insect, a stop sign, a neighbor whose name starts with the letter D and much more. This is a great activity to get your children exploring your neighborhood and meeting some new friends or letting old friends/neighbors how much they mean to them!  Go here to download the Neighborhood Scavenger Hunt.

Acts of Kindness:

Some other acts of kindness ideas include picking some flowers from around your neighborhood and putting them in a mason jar or even a cup with a cute bow tied around it.  I love to give these flowers out to neighbors and tell them they our neighborhood.  Also, writing a little note to your neighbor and depending on how old your child is, they can write the letter or just signing their name at the bottom of a picture.  My daughter has spent hours drawing these amazing pictures that I love to send to my parent’s as they live out of state or giving them to my husband’s parents who love receiving them, and even neighbors.  You can even pick up some inexpensive frames at your local craft store and have them framed to give out as well.  Years ago, we gave our neighbor one of my daughter’s pictures she painted for her.  Our sweet neighbor still has it sitting on her kitchen counter.  Again, these little things mean a lot to others so take a moment to make someone’s day and teach your children about the importance of kindness.  Check your local station to watch Daniel Tiger’s Neighbor Day.  You can read more at the PBS Kids website.
