Meet Vivian Howard from “A Chef’s Life”

    October 20, 2015 /

Have you ever dreamed of selling everything and moving to a slower-paced town?  I have to be honest, we have entertained that idea a couple times!  It always gets back to what type of work would we do!  I’d love to have a farm where we grow our own food – but let’s be realistic here, I don’t know if I am cut out for that.  But one woman, Chef Vivian Howard surely is!  I love her story and think you will too – along with the tasty okra recipe she shared with us! PBS’s A Chef’s Life, the character-driven docu-series that takes viewers inside the life and kitchen of Chef Vivian Howard and her two restaurants…

Dwell :: Our Kitchen Redo – Part One

    October 19, 2015 /

Buying Your First Home: Buying your first home is such an exciting new journey but it can be stressful!  We had looked all over Orange County and ended up buying a place about 50 yards from our apartment.  I guess you could say we liked the area.  The day we signed the papers happened to fall on my birthday so we had some chocolate cake and a glass of champagne in our new home that night.  My sweet husband even carried me across the threshold into our home. We immediately had the floors replaced with bamboo flooring and had the house painted, and ceilings scraped before we moved in.  If you have the…

New Poster and Trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens Fans!

    October 18, 2015 /

Poster Revealed Today to Kick Off Countdown to Trailer Release Tickets to Star Wars: The Force Awakens Go on Sale Everywhere Following the Trailer Launch   Star Wars was the first movie I remember watching as a kid.  I remember we arrived late to the theater and the only seats available were at the very front so our family grab the last few seats and literally had front-row seats.  At the age of eight my love of Sci-Fi/Fantasy had begun!  My little brain was blown-away by the movie and all the cool weapons and flying cars!  I SO wanted a hover craft!  I love sharing the classic Star War movies with…

Crafts :: DIY Decorative Halloween Pumpkins

    October 18, 2015 /

Spiders, skeletons, spooky ghosts and pumpkins! That is what October is all about. I always try to do something fun with our pumpkins and this year I have decided to make them less scary and more decorative. I may even decide to keep them around until Thanksgiving, with minor adjustments of course. Seasonal crafts can turn out to be pretty expensive but with a good eye you can make some that are more affordable. What I like and look for are flowers and ribbons, pieces of fabric in colors I love.  And of course, I love to glitter too. You will need: Fake craft pumpkins I bought mine at Michael’s…

    National Dictionary Day October 16th

    October 16, 2015 /

On October 16, 1758, Noah Webster was born in Hartford, Connecticut. Very few people went to college in Webster’s day, but he loved learning. So much so that his family chose to send him to Yale in 1774 when he was just 16 years old. He graduated in 1778. Webster could not afford to continue on to study law, so he chose to become a teacher. Webster was unhappy with the books that were used in American schools as they came from England and spoke often of allegiance to King George. Webster wanted students to learn from American books so he worte one himself. In 1783 Webster penned A Grammatical…

6 Gorgeous and Unique Fall Centerpieces

    October 16, 2015 /

I really do just love this time of year!  From the Fall weather (though you wouldn’t know it out here in Southern California – yes, I am complaining of the heat wave mid October!) to fall fashion and home décor.  This year I wanted to get some ideas for some pretty centerpieces that I could make through the holidays.  Here are some of my favorites! Add in some fruit: This is such a pretty centerpiece.  I love how they used a silver pitcher as the vase.  This design comes from Rosa Beltran Design.   Use a Pumpkin: This centerpiece was used for a wedding but I love how they used a cream…
