Dwell :: TIDY to the Rescue!

    December 3, 2014 /

A few weeks back I received an adorable mailer from a new company called TIDY.  I love this concept and just had to find out more about this cleaning service that provides house cleaning options for busy families.  For example, if you want a cleaning person to only tidy up one or two areas in your house before your next party – they will do that for only $40.  I like that the services can range from a quick pick up to a very intense top-to-bottom cleaning service where everything in your home is dusted off, cleaned up and sparkly when you come home. I wanted to find out…

How Tidying Up Can Change Your Life

    December 1, 2014 /

This post contains sponsored content.   While living and working in Japan years ago,  I was introduced to the concept of Wabi Sabi which represents a comprehensive Japanese world view or aesthetic centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. The spirit of Wabi Sabi is based on a simple set of ideals adopted from nature such that it is imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete.  Wabi Sabi implies a modesty of soul that allows one to see and appreciate the simple and the common. In this spirit, I have worked at bringing in my home things that make me happy when I look at them.  I enjoy having scented candles lit even during…

Family :: The Importance of Spending Downtime Together

    December 1, 2014 /

Photo courtesy of Flickr   The holidays can be a stressful time for most people – with all the shopping, dinners, activities, parties, school functions – you name it, most of us are running around from place to place trying to take it all in.  So when the weekends come around, I really value some downtime with the family.  Our usual attire around the house are sweats.  I wish I could say that if you rang my doorbell on the weekends, I would come to the door with my hair and makeup all done – but reality is… we are probably in our sweats chilling!  That is why when I was…

    DIY Modern Holiday Decor Ideas

    November 30, 2014 /

This weekend we are working on decorating our home and front porch in all things Christmas!  But this year, I feel like changing it up a bit and only putting out things I really, truly love.  I picked up a book at the store the other day called The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japananse art of decluttering and organizing by Marie Kondo which I plan to do a write up about soon.  But one of the things she writes about is to make sure you only have in your home things that bring you joy. Luckily, she provides tips to do this, but it stuck with me…

New Live-Action Series Odd Squad Premieres 11/26 on PBS Kids

    November 26, 2014 /

Last April at the PBS annual meeting in San Francisco, I heard about a new PBS Kids series ODD SQUAD that is designed to help kids ages 5-8 years old build math skills.  Coming from a student who was deathly afraid of math growing up – I am absolutlely thrilled that PBS Kids has created this series that shows that math can be fun!  You see, the show follows two young government agents, Olive and Otto, who use math skills and collaboration to investigate weird and unusual phenomena. ODD SQUAD will premiere today, Wednesday, November 26, 2014, on PBS KIDS with a special one-hour broadcast of two back-to-back episodes, along with integrated digital and offline…
