Recipes :: Fall Fun for the Kids
Most of the country is enjoying the fall season and getting geared up for the holidays and some fun! Here in southern California we have been having heat wave after heat wave but that isn’t deterring me for starting to find some fun recipes I can make with my daughter once it cools down a bit. I have good memories of making fudge in the kitchen with my mom and like to create some lasting ones with my little monkey! I found some tasty ones that can be enjoyed by the whole family! Owl Graham Crackers: This fun sweet is from Eyes On the Source and uses graham crackers,…

Play :: DIY Halloween Crafts
We just love Halloween around our house and already put up some decorations much to the dismay of my husband. As my daughter, her friend from the neighborhood and I were hanging spider webs around the trees, we were giggling that “dad” was going to think we were crazy for decorating so early. And no big surprise that when he came home that night, his first response was “Really? On September 12th – we have Halloween decorations?” I just smiled and blamed it on Kate and her friends that they were too excited and so I just had to do it for them… My love for Halloween stems from childhood and it is…

Ask the Doctor :: Best Supplements for Teens
Ask the Doctor: Question: My teenage daughter seems sluggish and has skin blemishes. It is hard to get her to eat properly, but what supplements could I give to her? Being a teenager is work; they are learning not only what is taught in school but tremendous life lessons. Unfortunately, diet is usually not a priority so supplementation can be ( simple) and essential. Talk Like a Pirate Facebook Party September 19th
It was three years ago this month that I found out about International Talk Like a Pirate Day. On September 19th the entire world is asked to “talk like a pirate” for the day! This idea was started over 10 years ago by Mark “Cap’n Slappy” Summers and John “Chumbucket” Baur. I had a chance to interview these two fun mates and you can read more about how the idea to “Talk Like a Pirate” came to them and why they chose September 19th as the day to talk like a pirate here on my author site. As many of you know, my first storybook app and book, Penelope the…

Dwell :: Kid’s Indoor Reading Room Ideas
Since my daughter was very little, my husband and I have been reading children’s books to her most every night. In fact, my love of children’s picture grew so much during her early years after spending so many hours together at our local book store, that I was inspired to write my own children’s book so that one day I could read it to her! When I received the final draft of my book, Penelope the Purple Pirate in the mail, I held it in my arms and was so excited to finally be able to read it to her that night. Her favorite part of the book is the About the Author page because…

Senseez :: Mom Invents Product to Help Special Needs Children
I am a Mom and I created the Senseez Pillows. The name Senseez means to ease the senses. Let me tell you the story of how Senseez was born. When my son was 2, he was diagnosed with a special need. One of his difficulties was sitting in one place long enough to eat his meal, read a story, or sit for circle time. I spoke to an occupational therapist who recommended a vibrating mat to help with this. I bought one for my son, and he instantly loved the sensations! But one day, I wanted to take him to our local library for storytelling, and though the mat would…
