Spotlight On :: Susie Cakes Bakery
This past spring, my daughter’s Daisy Troop had a tour through one of the best bakeries here in southern California – Susie Cakes. They are well-known for having the most delicious cakes – especially their carrot cake! When we visited the bakery, I had just started on the Paleo diet and you are not suppose to eat any dairy or gluten, so I reframed from trying any of the delicious cookies and cakes they had displayed. But I promised myself that once I reached a goal of losing some of the weight (that had secretly piled on this past year) that I would treat myself to a large slice of chocolate cake. When that day came…

What’s Hot in Southern California :: Knott’s Camp Spooky Halloween Event
If you grew up in southern California you probably have visited Knott’s Berry Farm theme park as a kid. I loved going to Knott’s and remember eating the yummy pie and funnel cakes. In fact, I wanted to share the Knott’s Berry Farm experience with my daughter, so we purchased the year-round tickets this year. It is quite the bargain and we have full access to the park year-round (and even the water park) for under $200. Last time my daughter and I went to Knott’s Berry Farm we headed to the famous Mrs. Knott’s Restaurant and ate a delicious plate of fried chicken and her famous pie. We even…

Wellness :: The Importance of Eye Care
While watching a basketball game in high school, I asked my friend sitting next to me if I could check out her glasses – just to see how I looked in them. Imagine my surprise when I found that I could see much better and thus began my lifetime journey of wearing contacts and eyeglasses. It does seem surprising that I went through middle and high school and my nearsightedness was never caught! At my last eye appointment, my optometrist suggested I start wearing reading glasses while on the computer to help with the eye strain. It has helped me and I find my eyes aren’t as tired at…

Whole Foods and PBS Kids Promote Healthy Eating
After my health scare this past year, I was reminded of how important it is to be in good health. It really is the foundation to living a full and vibrant life! Especially if you have young children, you want to teach them the importance of making good food choices to ensure they grow up appreciating and taking care of their own health. So I was happy to hear that Whole Foods Market and PBS Kids have partnered up to offer families tools that support healthy eating. They offer FREE resources, including materials from their newest preschool series, PEG + CAT, which focuses on preschool math and…
