    Ask the Doctor :: Overindulgence Prevention 101

    November 8, 2013 /

    Ask the Doctor: Question: Last holiday season, I drank a little too much alcohol and ate too much food. Do you have any tips for the occasional overindulgence? Tis the season of celebrating with family, friends and holiday treats. It’s good to enjoy this time of year; spending more time with your loved ones, yet, we tend to overindulge a bit and forget to listen to our bodies (that are clearly telling us to stop eating and drinking). Below are a few preventable tips to remember and also what do if the excitement overshadowed and thus the prevention was not heard. Overindulgence Prevention 101 1. Don’t go hungry to a party: Eat…

    Reflections :: Self-contemplation helps you follow-through

    November 7, 2013 /

        Two weeks ago I posted about the “feminine” function of the psyche, what we might easiest call our emotional and intuitive inner life.  In depth psychology, we name this the anima.  A common wound in our logic-driven society is to thwart the needs of the inner life, to repress ourselves.  It is a theme I write often about, how to gently recognize if we are hurting ourself by focusing too much on doing rather than being.  Nurturing the inner function is a priority for a healthy individual.  It extends to deeper, more authentic relationships, families, communities and so forth.  The relationship with yourself is the starting point! To…

    Dandelion Moms Project Kindness :: Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry Campaign

    November 6, 2013 /

        What is the dandelion moms Project Kindness? Well, every month we select an organization that is helping others in some capacity.  One month we supported a grassroots non-profit organization that was helping to create a library filled with books in a small town in the the Dominican Republic.  Another month we supported the Project Night Night that helps children in shelters feel safe and loved with a special tote bag that is filled with a children’s book, blanket and a stuff animal.  It warms my heart to see our lovely dandelion moms helping in any way they can – even if it is sharing the post about an organization helping others and getting…

    November 5, 2013 /

    Thanksgiving is going to be here before you know it!  It seems like every year my daughter and I have so much fun decorating for Halloween and Christmas that Thanksgiving doesn’t get its due course.  It is such a wonderful holiday because it is all about being with friends and family, eating to your hearts content and giving thanks for all that you have in your life.  I spent too much time this morning checking out all the wonderful ideas on Pinterest (funny how that happens) and found some really great ideas that you can incorporate into your Thanksgiving holiday.  Anything from how to decorate the table, DIY centerpieces, an adorable…

    Parenting :: Celebrate National Young Readers Week November 11-15th

    November 4, 2013 /

        National Young Readers Week is an annual event that was co-founded in 1989 by Pizza Hut and the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress that encourages a love of reading in kids. Share the timeless classics your parents once read to you, like The Velveteen Rabbit and The Little Engine That Could, with this list of titles inspired by books on Netflix. Introduce your child to favorite characters you grew up with, like Kristy and Claudia of The Babysitters Club or Tia and Tony from Escape to Witch Mountain. National Young Readers Week, November 11 – 15 is a great reason to celebrate these titles. …
