Sweets From Around the World
Halloween is a time of celebration and superstition – and its right around the corner! Did you know the nearly 2,000 year old holiday was originally a pre-celebration for the Celts New Year, known as Samhain, which began on November 1, marking the end of summer and the beginning of the dark, cold winter? They believed that during this day the dead returned as ghosts and that the mere presence of these ghosts aided their priests in predicting the future. The Celts would set bonfires, make sacrifices of food and animals to appease their Gods and wear costumes to celebrate the day. Combined with influences from other cultures,…

Fall Fashion Trends 2013 :: Leather!
Finally,finally,finally the weather here has cooled down. Today was the first day it felt appropriate to actually have a pumpkin spice latte! Now that the temperatures are getting cooler, I am especially excited to wear one of the biggest trends this fall which is leather and faux leather. When I was in my early 20’s and living in New York City (showing my age now), I had 3 (yes 3) motorcycle jackets. How I wished that I had maybe one of them now?! Dealing with the Unthinkable: Preventable Birth Injuries
An expectant mother develops a close relationship with the obstetrician that will deliver her child. She trusts that the skill and training of her doctor will ensure a safe delivery. The birth of a baby is supposed to be one of the happiest events in a mother’s life. The last thing an expectant mother considers is a preventable birth injury. But sometimes things go wrong. However, serious birth injuries occur in about 3 of every 100 births. Few patients are as precious as an infant, and their medical care starts before they are even born. Pregnancy is a very vulnerable time for the mother and infant. A doctor…

Reflections :: Telling Our Stories
Some of our most important women’s work exists in story. What is it I mean by women’s work? The value, intrinsic, of embracing authentically the parts of our inward experience of self intertwined with and thereby defined by being female. A nice, easy place to start are with the roles we play. Take a minute, go ahead. I am certain at least three roles pop immediately to head. Mother? Wife? Professional? Sister? Daughter? Best Friend? Caregiver? The list runs on and on. Be as specific as you can get. What is it I mean by story? The plot and themes that web together the tapestries of our lives.…
