Reflections :: The Need To Be Social
The Importance of Friendships: I was thinking some more about needs recently, as result of studying for an upcoming class at school on group counseling. A man named Irvin D. Yalom is considered among modern psychologists to be instrumental for his work on social needs because of his vast experience leading groups and studying group dynamics. In one of his books he speaks very practically about how putting people in a group for counseling purposes is proven to instill hope in them, to provide education through modelling of leadership, to correct early examples of bad relationships, and to instill trust and correct and allow interpersonal development. These…

In the Spotlight :: Kathy Kinney of Mrs.P Be-a-Famous Writer Contest
This is my third year supporting the Mrs. P Be-A-Famous-Writer Contest that children across the country can enter for a chance to have their winning story beautifully illustrated and published into a real-live book! Promoting a love of reading and writing is one of my passions because books have been such a part of my life. There are so many magical worlds just ready to draw you in – you just pick up the book and read it. Think about your own favorite book as a child and think about why it was your favorite childhood book. I loved Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell and would daydream about…

Recipes :: 5 Easy Summer Treats
Nothing says summer quite like eating fresh watermelon at the pool or beach. As kids, my younger brother and I would sit outside our front porch and go through a whole watermelon between the two of us! I can’t seem to get enough of it this summer and recently learned that it has moved up to the front line in recent research studies on high-lycopene foods. You have probably heard about Lycopene as it is a carotenoid phytonutrient important for cardiovascular health. This week I found some healthy fruit treats that you can feel good about serving to your kids and not have to worry about grumpy sugar crashes. You can even get the kids involved to…

Emergency Fashion Fixes at the Office
Emergency Fashion Fixes at the Office Fashion emergencies happen all the time. Avoiding them entirely isn’t possible, but dealing with them is. It just requires a little know-how and some basic office supplies. Obviously, using actual fashion tools would be better, but these can help you out in a pinch so you look your best for that presentation. Tears and Rips Once your clothing starts tearing, you need to stop that tear before it gets any worse. Otherwise, that little hole could quickly turn into a long run. Whether that tear is in your favorite business suit or a dress from a designer dress rental, you need to…

Ask the Doctor :: Symptoms of Fibromyalgia
Ask the Doctor: Question: I am in pain all the time – could I have fibromyalgia? Fibromaylgia is tough: tough to live with and tough to treat. And many doctors have no idea how to diagnosis or treat which makes getting better, a whole new challenge. The best suggestion I have is to find a doctor that you feel comfortable with and trust: Someone who will listen to you and be open to spending the appropriate amount of time with you to get you better. If you have any symptoms below, find that doctor as soon as you can because early treatment will result in a fast recovery. What…
