Fashion :: Maxi Dresses for Summer
Summer is in full swing and temperatures are rising all across the country. One of the easiest things to throw on is a maxi dress as they are the essence of comfort and style. This time of year is also a great time to shop for summer items as most retailers are having sales to clear out for fall. I often would scratch my head about this while working in the fashion industry all those years. Who can think about a sweater right now? Not me, but that is the way it works. Never the less, I am happy about a sale on summer clothes since we will be wearing…

Inspirational Mom :: Camilla Olson
There are certain clothing items that I really can’t have enough of (coats being the main item – though I live in sunny California) and I refrain only due to my budget. Scarves are one of those items I would spend too much on if I could. You can have the most simple outfit on but if you throw on a nice scarf around your neck – it just adds the finishing touches! While living abroad in Japan, I came across some beautiful scarves as the Japanese have a real knack for beautiful textiles as you probably know. Recently though, I was given one of the most beautiful scarves’ I have seen in a long…

Recipes :: Easy Homemade Popsicles
For my daughter’s end of the year kindergarten carnival party I signed up to bring popsicles. Having my masters in nutrition has helped me to decipher through ingredient lists to see what our family should and shouldn’t eat. And to be honest, I am always a bit disgusted at the snacks – even the ones who claim to be “healthy” snacks that companies put out on the shelves for our kids. I grabbed some popsicles that I use to eat as a kid and looked at the ingredient list on my way up to the checkout. I didn’t like that High Fructose Corn Syrup was listed in the label as…

Health :: The Many Benefits of Reflexology Massage
Part of my journey to get healthier this past year after a 4-day stay at the hospital back in September has included monthly Reflexology Massages. The doctors never really did have any answers about what happened to me even after 11 liters pumped in to me via IV (ouch) that included potassium, magnesium, calcium, water, a chest x-ray, a heart monitor attached to my chest the entire stay, spinal tap (ouch), and blood tests every couple hours. All I know was one minute I was sitting in a Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) event at Cal State Fullerton, and the next minute I was extremely sick and had to be rushed to the emergency room. Some…

Plan :: Keeping Your Paperwork Under Control
Tips to Keep Your Paperwork Under Control I am often asked how best to organize bills, checks, receipts and the like. Honestly, there is no “right” answer to that question. First, I would say ask who needs to access and use those documents. If it is only you then you will need to come up with a system that works for you. But, more often than not, someone else is going to need to find something contained in your system. So the key is to find a balance between what makes sense and works for you and making it simple enough for someone else to understand. I find…
