PBS Kids Premieres “Curious George Swings Into Spring” on Earth Day Review & Giveaway

    April 16, 2013 /

One of my favorite shows of PBS Kids is the two-time Emmy Award winning daily series Curious George.  I love how this classic story that we enjoyed as a kid is available for our kids to watch as a series. The television show is designed to inspire kids to explore science, math and engineering in the world around them in a fun and entertaining way. The shows encourages inquiry and curiosity, promotes hands-on exploration and shows parents and caregivers how to support children’s science and math-related play.  And who best to teach kids about science and math play than our pal Curious George!     Celebrate Earth Day with Curious George! PBS Kids will premiere Curious George…

Inspirational Mom: Jodi Murphy of Geek Club Books

    April 15, 2013 /

This week we are featuring mom Jodi Murphy who is quite inspirational in that she is creating a book and storybook app from characters that her son dreamed up.  I love how she is the type of person who looks at life as the glass being half full – if not overflowing.  She demonstrates with her Can Do attitude that anything is possible and that with love and support magical things can happen!  I had a chance to speak to Jodi about the process of creating Geek Club Books and she provides some insight on steps she took to realize her dream.   The message of Geek Club Books  is…

Tips to Celebrate Earth Day:   Earth Day is on April 22nd this year. This day is a wonderful opportunity to share with our kids the beauty of nature, and the importance of preserving and respecting our environment. It’s so much fun to get our kids involved in the natural world, or even bring a bit of nature inside. Here are 8 fun Earth Day activities to enjoy with your kids.   Grow some seedlings: This is really fun and something I do regularly with my children. At the moment my son has a little pot on his bedroom windowsill with baby carrots growing in it. He started by…

Instagram of the Week :: The Joy of a Carousel

    April 13, 2013 /

What is it about seeing a carousel that immediately lightens my heart and brings me back to my childhood?  My daughter loves to ride them whenever we come upon one – whether it be at a shopping mall or at an amusement park.  This past week we went to our local zoo that has a gorgeous carousel with all types of animals including a giraffe, eagle, tiger and even a nest that you can spin round and round.  If the carousel attendant lets me –  I jump on with my daughter and feel about six years old again.  Most amusement parks have a carousel.   Disneyland in Anaheim has…

Family :: An Interview with My Grown-up Daughter

    April 13, 2013 /

Instead of reading this mom’s memories and reflections on what it was like to raise my children, I thought you, dear readers, might be more interested in my grown up daughter’s perspective. So I worked up a few questions and sat down with my daughter Molly in what I told her was a “no holds barred” interview on growing up with me as her mom. To be honest, I knew she liked me so it wasn’t much of a risk, but I was surprised at her favorite memories (some seemingly insignificant moments), and what were the most important ways I helped her get through her tough middle school years.…

    Spotlight On Sara Paloma Pottery

    April 12, 2013 /

Over ten years ago I was walking along the side streets in Laguna Beach, California and came across a store that had the most amazing pottery in their window.  I immediately went in and just had to have these two pieces that are still sitting in my living room bay window.  Luckily, the name of the artist was written into the bottom of the vases so I contacted her to see about an interview for dandelion moms.  Her pieces are so simple yet so beautiful in this simplicity.  The clean lines are gorgeous and look amazing with a single stem flower of your choice coming out of the…
