Things to Do When the Kids are Sick

About a week before Christmas, my daughter and I caught that cold that is going around and were in bed for about two days.  Of course, she recovered in no time and I was feeling bad for over a week.  I sure wish I had her little immune system!  We literally spent the two days in bed recovering watching movies.  Thank goodness for Netflix and their huge array of movie options that is for sure!  If you find yourself or your family sick in bed – here are is a list of movie options that Netflix put together for families to enjoy.  Plus they provided us with some healthy recipes to try out when they are feeling better and a dream catcher craft to ward off any bad dreams they might have while sick.  We actually have one of these hanging by my daughter’s bed and she loves the idea that they will catch any bad dreams she has and helps her feel safe.

The best cure for those sick day symptoms? Laughter. Netflix has compiled a list of hilarious titles that will turn sniffles into giggles. They also pulled a few episodes featuring under-the-weather characters, showing your little kids they’re not the only ones who catch the occasional cold or have to visit the doctor.

We watched Escape from Planet Earth and saw The Croods in the theater and can’t wait to watch it again on Netflix.  I look forward to checking out these other recommendations!

For the Little Kids:

One of our contributors, Heidi Deal, mentioned about how wonderful The Magic School Bus series is and how much her son enjoys reading these books.  I am excited to see that they offer it as a show as well.  And we are big fans of Daniel Tiger’s  Neighborhood!  What are some of your favorite go-to shows when the kids are sick in bed?

Funny Snack Round Up for Movie Time:

Netflix is working with food blogger, Alejandra Ramos, to come up with some healthy and fun snacks to enjoy while watching your movies.  Tickle their taste buds with one of these five funny (and healthy!) snack ideas with a silly twist.  I love the silly pancakes and the mice made out of pears.  Sure to help make them feel a bit better!

Make Your Own Dream Catcher:

Last time we were at Knott’s Berry Farm my daughter wanted a Dream Catcher as her souvenir.  She has it hanging above her bed and really embraced the notion that it catches bad dreams.  This is a great activity to do with the kids! Ward off bad naptime dreams with a DIY dreamcatcher. This simple craft can be made while lying in bed or on the couch. Click here to learn how to make your own.

What are some go-to movies you enjoy when the kids are not feeling well?

Note:  We are part of the Netflix Stream Team and are provided with movie suggestions, crafts and recipes each month for our audience to enjoy.  We were provided with a subscription to Netflix but this does not affect our opinion in any way.
