About the National Geographic Bee

Each year thousands of schools in the United States participate in the National Geographic Bee using materials prepared by the National Geographic Society. The contest is designed to inspire students to be curious about the world. Schools with students in grades four through eight are eligible for this entertaining and challenging competition.

The mission of the National Geographic Bee is to educate kids about the world and inspire them to learn more about it. The competition has several levels (school, state, national, etc.) and is open to fourth through eighth graders.  When we spoke with Dr. Jill Biden she mentioned how the last years finalists paid them a visit in their home.  What an amazing experience for these young inquisitive minds!

I am excited that our school is participating this year!  Our PTA President jumped on board right away (love that) and together with some parents and teachers we are going to make it happen.  Any parent can get their school involved. You just need to work with a teacher at your child’s school who is responsible (but you can help organize it) for signing the school up and administering the Bee, and test to the finalists.  What a great way to get the kids excited about the world around them!

Deadline for early bird registration ($100) is December 18, and participation is on a school basis.

National Championship held in Washington, D.C.
