    Travel :: Best Places to Visit in California

    October 31, 2013 /

        My parents moved to California when I was around 6 years of age.  Both of them were from the Midwest and they told me they always dreamed of moving to California when they were kids.  I grew up in Southern California but moved up north to attend college.  After I graduated, I moved abroad for a couple years only to move back here in my late 20’s.  At times I have dreamed of moving to a climate where we see more of the seasons pass us by (I always dreamed of a white Christmas), but lately I have really come to love where we live.  We live less than…

    Latest & Greatest :: Skylanders SWAP Force

    October 30, 2013 /

        The hottest game this year on most kid’s wish list is the new Skylanders SWAP Force game from the award-winning, top-selling franchise.  Skylanders SWAP Force builds upon the success of the franchise’s signature gameplay and collectible toy experience, adding an all-new dimension to the “toys to life” innovation.  The game introduces a compelling play pattern — dynamic swapability — that lets gamers transform 16 SWAP Force inter-action figures into more than 250 unique characters by swapping the top and bottom halves of the toys.  Now, Portal Masters can mix and match characters’ powers and moves and experience an unprecedented level of choice never before seen in a SkylandersTM game.  …

    Latest & Greatest :: Robert Redford stars in All is Lost

    October 29, 2013 /

        Academy Award®winner Robert Redford stars in All Is Lost, an open-water thriller about one man’s battle for survival against the elements after his sailboat is destroyed at sea. But with the sun unrelenting, sharks circling and his meager supplies dwindling, the ever-resourceful sailor soon finds himself staring his mortality in the face. Written and directed by Academy Award nominee J.C.Chandor (Margin Call) with a musical score by Alex Ebert (Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros), All Is Lost is a gripping, visceral and powerfully moving tribute to ingenuity and resilience. All Is Lost opened in NY and LA October 18, and nationwide October 25th.   Here are some of the reviews so far: “OFF THE SCALE BRILLIANT” – Emma…

    Recipes :: Spooky Halloween Appetizers

    October 27, 2013 /

    Today is the day my daughter and I plan to figure out the foods, last minute decorations and activities we will have at our upcoming Halloween party.  We are planning on creating our scary skeleton guy today (just stuff your husband’s pants, an old hooded sweatshirt, and shoes with newspaper and put a skull on top), and our scavenger hunt planned out.  But I wanted to find some fun finger foods for the adults and kids who will be joining us can enjoy and get a kick out of.  Check out the fun and sometimes spooky appetizers that will surely be a hit!           7 Layer Bean Dip: This…

    Parenting :: Planting Seeds

    October 26, 2013 /

    photo by Stacie Isabella Turk/Ribbonhead.com The child’s thinking is neither more limited nor inferior to that of an adult. It is different. The child thinks with feelings and not with the intellect. That is why communication is so complicated. And speaking with children is a difficult art. ~ Janus Korczak     Beliefs are potent seeds that, once planted, grow roots quickly and become part of the long-term fabric of the psyche. Sometimes a child’s beliefs about him/herself get planted without our realizing it and much like being a (fake) redhead (take it from this one,) it is the hardest color to get and the hardest color to get rid…

    What’s Hot in Southern California :: The VamPirates Show in Buena Park

    October 25, 2013 /

          This past weekend my husband and I attended the Vampirates show with my daughter and her friend.  It might sound scary but they just loved it! They combined pirates and vampires to create the Vampirates show with some amazing stunts, aerial performances, sword fighting and even a Haka dance!  Here is a description of the show:   Come celebrate at Treasure Bay’s Annual Masquerade Ball with vampire hunters Randolph & Kate. They are there to forewarn the costume-clad guests of the dangers lurking in the haunted Secret Cove. Unfortunately, their cries of despair go unheard, as Captain Sebastian the Black and his horde of Vampire Pirates crash the Ball and…
