With the holidays approaching it can get stressful sticking to a budget.  But there is no need to overspend if you just take some time out to plan what each person in your immediate family and any friends, teachers, coworkers, etc., might like for the holidays and see about making something for them.  I always think a nice homemade gift – especially one that I use – is always a nice treat!  Check out these fabulous DIY Holiday Gift Ideas and there just might be something that strikes your fancy!  I plan to make the bark candle personally, but love all of these ideas.  Enjoy!         Homemade Hot…

Batkid Saves San Francisco and Warms Hearts

    November 16, 2013 /

A couple weeks ago, I was sent an email from Clever Girls Collective about a little boy named Miles, who has been battling leukemia since he was 18 months old (thankfully it is in remission), and asked that I help spread the word about an incredible event that was happening on November 15th in San Francisco.  They were working with the San Francisco Make-A-Wish Foundation to help turn this little boy’s obsession with comic books into a day he (and the rest of the country) won’t forget.  All day long, the city of San Francisco helped Miles fight bad guys, rescue a damsel in distress, and drive around with Batman in…

Inspirational Mom :: Meredith Alexander of Milk + Bookies

    November 15, 2013 /

Recently, I came across an organization that provides books to families in need.  As a children’s author and mom to an early reader, I know the importance of providing books and encouraging a love of reading to kids.  We are fortunate to have access to many books and always consider it a treat to visit our local independent bookstore. But many families are not in a situation to do this.   Meredith Alexander has created a wonderful organization called Milk + Bookies that encourages families to come together for a Milk+Bookies event, have some milk and cookies and buy books that are then donated to families in need.  One of the…

Dwell :: Modern Holiday Decor & Crafts

    November 13, 2013 /

We are preparing to host Thanksgiving this year and found some wonderful recipes to try out as well as décor ideas.  Make sure to check out these posts to get some new ideas as well!  Friends, Christmas will be here before you know it and I find it less stressful if I take care of my shopping way ahead of time so I can actually sit back and enjoy the season with family and friends.  I don’t know how people can go shopping the day or so before Christmas at the malls – how stressful!  So here’s to planning a bit ahead (we have a little over 6 weeks left) and enjoy trying out a few of these…

Latest & Greatest :: The Kindle Fire HD 7″

    November 11, 2013 /

As part of the Dot Complicated Voices mom blogger group I was sent a Kindle Fire HD 7″ to try out and post a review.  I have to be honest, I was a bit unsure of what to think about the Kindle and even had a discussion about this with my father-in-law a few months back.  He was telling me how easy it is to pick out books to read on the Kindle and that there are so many that are offered free.  Most of the classics can be found for free on the Kindle!  I explained that I am old-school and prefer to hold a book in my…
