Have Courage and Be Kind ~ Cinderella

Have courage and be kind.  Such wise words from Cinderella’s mother!

As moms we are constantly bombarded with a million and one things to do every day, week and year.  It almost feels like we are on a long windy road sometimes and we don’t really see an end in sight.  And many of the things we are doing every day are for our family.  The kids need our attention 24/7 and if we want to keep our marriage healthy  – our husbands need some of that attention!  I’ve heard that marriages are work – and need to be given attention to.  It is so important to spend time each day just talking and listening to one another.

Most of all, make sure to carve out time for yourself.  That little piece inside of you that hungers for something that is just yours.  Whether it be taking time out for coffee with some friends, working on a project you have put aside, or a desire to learn something new.  It takes courage to go after the things you want in life.  Recently, I’ve been thinking about what life will be like when my little sunshine will be out of the house at college most likely.  It really isn’t that far off – ten years goes by so quickly.  Now I get why all the moms (and some dads) cry at high school graduation.  They are probably thinking where in the world did the time go?! I wondered if I would be that mom who has a hard time with an empty nest.  Probably.  But I also know that part of me that desires new experiences and creating will still be burning bright.

Don’t let that piece inside of you burn out.  Keep it alive by doing things that get your creative juices flowing and make you excited about life. Have courage to go after the things that you desire.  This desire to carve something out for yourself is not selfish.  It is being kind to oneself. It is refueling your spirit, your soul and your mind to do things that make you happy and feel alive.  It is that little piece inside of you that let’s you see the magic in things – like you did as a child.

Take some time out and think, really think about the things you would like to do in your lifetime.  Write them down.  Call it your bucket list if you may.  Or Adventures To Be Had!  Some of the adventures on my list include:

Learn how to make pottery (I would love to have that set-up Demi had in the movie Ghost)

Learn how to cook – like really cook gourmet meals

Learn how to paint

Go on an African Safari

Travel to Greece

Go to Europe (I’ve never been!)

Visit Japan with my family – take them to places I’ve visited

Own a home in Montana (our summer home)

Take some photography classes

Create Penelope as a cartoon

Do more public speaking (and overcome my stage fright)

These are things I’ve dreamed about and would like to see happen in my lifetime.  Maybe not now, but they are on my list of things to do.  What is on your life list?  Dream big, visualize how you might make it happen, and take steps that move you towards your dreams and goals. And keep that part of you alive with daily or weekly activities that nurture you!  You deserve it!
